Sears Silvertone Radio No 1 (1949-1951)
Attempted revival of an early 1950s Sears Silvertone AM radio. This was sitting on a shelf in my aunt's house for about 30 years as a decoration with no power cord. Today we find out if it still works.

      Thank you for the comment and subscribing! This is a power over Ethernet camera, so depending on the distance and type of cable you might be able to use a shovel to lift the soil and then tuck the cable under. (I did this with speaker cable and it lasted years, but have not personally tried Ethernet outdoors yet).

    I'm a college student on a budget and made the mistake of buying the WF-4833 (AKA WTF was I thinking?) My Dad told me he's always had great success with Epson. I had this for the first semester and then ordered after market ink on Amazon. It then gave me an error message saying 'Epson ink not recognized', called Epson and couldn't even understand their tech support lady who didn't understand a word I was saying as she tried to have me clean the print heads! Bad experience all the way around and never did get the printer fixed and ended up tossing it in the dumpster....my advice is always get a laser printer from now on! Great video by the way!

    You showed and recommended really strange cassette decks. Concerning JVC for instance, their cassette play and wind mechanic is really poor. Really reliable cassette players were produced by onkyo, from whom you did not show any. There are a lot of machines from yamaha from around late seventies until mid 90s, same with sony or pioneer, which can be recommended for the average user.

    Hello ABC Memphis, thank you for a great introduction. I bought the C844 sometime around 1981/82... 1200DM / 600Euro was a lot of money. I bought the C844 for my choir recordings. In an AB test (C844 against HIFI video recorder (3000DM)), the C844 was equal. (C844: double speed, Dolby C and pure iron cassette)... Of course the video tape / with helical track was unbeatably cheaper... The whole thing was topped off with my ASC6002S and the Super-D noise reduction system from Sanyo. However, that was a different league and an 1100m tape for 60DM was quickly sold at 38 / half track. I still have the C844 today. LG Manny

    What is the groovy music you are playing in the background? It’s production music of some kind. Do you have a title for it? I also heard it on a National Lampoon comedy LP from the ‘70’s.

    • @ACBMemphis
      @ACBMemphis 10 дней назад

      I don't know the title, but since uploading the video 3 years ago I too have heard it somewhere else, but can't remember where. This music was on the tape labeled "Beep Tone for Rackham" and a lot of chatter is recorded over parts of the music, i.e. the clip at the beginning of this video after he says "echo" someone else says "How come?" and he replies with an explanation like "well you're listening to tape monitor and it's coming out through the speakers..." I am guessing they used this music to test the equipment before one of the sales conferences. Anyway, thanks for the comment and if I hear it again and learn the title, will come back here and update this comment.

    NEVER update the firmware. It will constantly prompt you to do so - don’t do it. It only creates problems. Throw that printer in the garbage. I did mine - two year lifespan and INSANE ink pricing. Using non Epson ink cartridges will kill the life of the printer. It works, but only for a short time. Premium off brand ink can work but they’ve made it so that non-Epson ink will kill it in a fairly short time.

    • @ACBMemphis
      @ACBMemphis 11 дней назад

      I blocked the printer's access to the Internet using my router, so it can't "phone home" anymore to check for new firmware, it only talks to the local network. Will definitely report back here on this and the previous video as to how long this thing lasts... Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Just a heads up - I bought my WF-4833 brand new and only used it extremely sparingly (almost entirely basic text, only sixteen 4x6 photos), but it has the most expensive replacement cartridges of all the Epson printers I've had over the last 30 years. Now today - just two years since buying it brand new at full retail ($140) - the magenta head is suddenly defective and it is out of warranty (one year mfg warranty). According to the print counter history, it only printed a total of 1, 980 pages in its entire two year lifetime. 1,117 B&W and 863 color prints. This thing had the shortest usable lifespan of any printer I have ever owned and it was not inexpensive. Considering how much ink it drinks and its horrible short lifespan I'm considering leaving the Epson family of printers. PS: That so called page count per cartridge - that's absurd. I had to buy new cartridges (at outrageously high prices) dozens of times - and you saw my total page count over it's short lifespan 1,117 B&W and 863 color. I'd throw this thing off a cliff if there was one near me.

    • @ACBMemphis
      @ACBMemphis 11 дней назад

      Thanks for the heads up and comment. Nothing about what these printer manufacturers are doing inspires me to be loyal to their brands. My black and white HP Laserjet 1102W that's probably over 10 years old is still working great, not sure what to try next when that or the new Epson dies. (But I have read Brother might be good and less intrusive...)

    I worked as a TSPS operator in Maine for six summers during high school and college. I remember that training on that tape like the back of my hand. You had to fill in one of three "bubbles" on the IBM mark-sense ticket, depending upon type of service difficulty. WNO: wrong number PTR: poor transmission CTO: cut off When the customer dialed directly, and encountered one of these types of difficulties the customer would hang up, dial zero, report the problem. By filling out a ticket with all of the details of the prior call, the customer would receive a credit. (For PTR the credit was only for the cost of one minute, because it was assumed the customer would not stay on the line on a bad connection.) The tape was also training the operator for something called a "flashing recall," meaning that the call experiencing the trouble had been originally placed through an operator, and the calling party had not yet hung up. When the phase of such a call "seized" an operator position, a lamp flashed, indicating that the customer, instead of hanging up, had simply tapped, one or more times on the switch hook, thus causing return to an operator (probably not the same operator who initiated the call). The number of minutes the parties had been talking appeared in the Nixie display. A flashing call did not require an IBM ticket for credit. Because the calling and called telephone numbers were still accessible at the console, the operator simply expressed regret and reconnected the customer. Depending upon the length of the call thus far, the operator either forced a charge to magnetic tape by recording the timing or completely cancelled it with a different key. If the operator neglected to express regret and was being remotely monitored, it was an official error. Operator also had to reconnect customer to the same party by asking, "To whom were you speaking?," even if it had not been person-to-person. In the training room, the tape was supposed to advance forward by either a press of the correct key or by sensing the student operator's voice. However, many times, the voice activation had no effect, and we had to physically blow into the microphone to get it to advance!

    I bought my first tape recorder in 1965! It was a Realistic tube, Mono only. The worst squealing tape syndrome experienced was on the Concert Radio Shack brand made from the mid seventies. It was to be expected, as it was labeled as low budget tape, around 2 bucks for 1800" The tapes from the 60s are still playable in 2024! I have a box of Shamrock tapes unopened, I'll give them a shot.........

    I agree that the Yamaha K960 is a champ! I had one for many years before selling it and replaced it with a Pioneer CT-F1250. The only drawback with the Yammie is if you record using DBX you can only playback in the same deck. DBX sounded better than any noise reduction I've ever heard. BTW, I bought my first real cassette deck in Yokosuka at the Navy Exchange. A TEAC A-350. A work horse of a deck and built like a tank. In my vintage Sansui rack I have a SC-5330 and used it to transfer all my cassettes to mp4 (Apple lossless format...and a dumb decision, but worked out okay in the end).

      Thanks for the comment! Would like to own a CT-F1250 myself some day. That Sansui looks very nice as well...

    Incredible how the circuit board has shrunk with the later models. The units from the 90s had the best image but have bad rubber belts (won't eject cassette), and bad capacitors inside the power supply - not difficult to fix. Units from late 90s early 2000s had the bad Taiwan capacitors - many of them, not worth fixing, either no image or no sound. Speaking about image quality, it's not a matter of definition, but a matter of memories. Many original cassettes have lost some magnetism by now, resulting in washed off colors. You can still record a new cassette and be amazed of the intense colors. Keep in mind, VCR play only 4:3 format, so the top and bottom of the image will be chopped on a wide screen.

    Old units were packed with several circuit boards and had rubber belts - these crumble and won't eject the cassette. Later units - much smaller and very lightweight - no longer have problematic power supply and have very small circuit boards that also use micro capacitors and have direct drive motor - no more rubber belts. Unfortunately, later units use cheaper head bearings which are too noisy during playback - some noise is normal, but these cheap units from 2000s are too noisy.
